CHARLES SMITH, MSW
Mr. Smith has over 30 years of experience working with diverse populations in a variety of settings, including addictions, child and family services, family preservation, juvenile probation, mental health, men’s health, and early childhood family support. He provides consultation and training in the areas of social services, fatherhood, men’s health, and management; working with both early childhood programs and community service agencies.
Mr. Smith was among the original practitioners and trainers trained in Motivational Interviewing by William Miller in 1993. He is the co-author of the Social Service Competency Based Training (SSCBT) curriculum, and coordinates the program in collaboration with Tennessee State University.
He lives in Portland, Oregon where he provided consultation and training services through the Early Childhood Training Center (ECTC) at Portland State University, from 1995 to 2014.
Currently he is Project Manager for the Systems of Care and Wraparound Implementation Project in Oregon through the Systems of Care Institute at Portland State University, is a Program Development Consultant for the Black Parent Initiative, and he coordinates the Men’s Health Project.
Charles is the father of three children ages 24, 22, and 13. Family time is spent supporting his children in their education and sports activities, cooking, and teaching Soo Bahk Do (Korean karate).
